Why Should You Have a Decommission Heating Oil Tank Removed?

  • There are hazards associated with just leaving a decommissioned heating oil tank sit in your basement or outside your home. For one thing, ASTs are never 100% empty. We can arrange to have your old tank safely emptied and have it removed.
  • To make the tank safe to remove, we may need to use one of two methods, inerting or purging. We can replace the air in a tank with chemically non-reactive gases to decrease the combustible materials. This is called inerting. This helps prevent fires and explosions. Another method used for making the take safe is purging or ventilating the tank to replace or dilute the flammable vapors in the tank with air, reducing the flammable mixture of fuel and oxygen. Anytime you are working with confined spaces that store flammable materials, there is always the possibility that combustion could occur. We minimize this through inerting and purging.
